Reflection

In the beginning of the semester, my first assignment was to prepare an Audience Analysis Worksheet. I suppose I made an assumption but thought I did pretty well but the grade I received quickly made me realize that I didn’t do so well. What I have learned is to never make assumptions and after proofreading, proof it again and again until it becomes a workable and usable document.

Being that this is an on-line class, the discussion boards helped keep me on track. It drives me crazy when I do not receive full credit for the discussions because after all, they are discussions – regardless, they organized me in a way that kept me focused.

The next assignment was a job materials rough draft and subsequent project. This was a good assignment as I felt it prepared me to find a job as I want to be a viable candidate in Human Resources and this prepared me. The instruction showed me how to search for a job in my category, a category defined by me, and to write a professional resume and cover letter. This class is preparing me for my future.

The User Help Project was good for me to do as I interacted with another web interface called Jimdo. I really like WordPress but I did it on Jimdo and it gave me a broad understanding of website design. I did a pretty good job for an amateur.

The Term Project was designed to be a group project and I did mine with a pre-med student which I thought would work out well and it did. The interesting part was that the topic was not even closely familiar to me but my contributions made it a success. I was the administrator, presentation creator, researcher and proofreader and I did a really good job as did my partner. I took away from this assignment as if I were working in a group setting in the real world to work together to achieve a goal. I know my work was received well by my group and I kept us on track, punctual and I communicated quite well. I will not forget the information and life lessons I learned while doing this project.

Dr. Robertshaw is a great instructor who has prepared me for life and work challenges and for that I thank him tremendously. Overall, I was quite pleased with all the knowledge I have gained and the practicality of working in a group setting and alone.
